Economic numbers have not increased in quite some time despite the optimistic views of many economists and yet the prices of conventional carbon based energies continue to rise. Given their costs to the ecology and industries of the Gulf of Mexico and their inhabitants it is painfully obvious that the continued use of these types of fuels has just too high of a price tag associated with them not to make a change. Changes such as these however are far from painless and just as expensive but these are merely short term when compared to the long term gains one can expect.
Currently, there are a wide selection of systems and devices available that for the most part focus on one aspect or another of energy usage. Whether it is outdoor solar lighting or air conditioning, or a power factor conditioning system they all are capable of significant savings over their operational life times. Many of these systems have an estimated return on investment of up to 7 years and then others are much shorter but the end result is the same. Purchasing and installing these systems will in fact reduce your monthly electric bills which in turn reduces your cost of living. During economically stressed periods the use of these systems makes the most sense as this is when we are seeking relief from these high utility costs.
Where you are geographically located is going to dictate which of these systems makes the most sense to use of course but the costs of not using them is by far higher than the short term costs in implementing them for long term use. A good example of this is that of the power factor conditioner which has an average cost of about $300.00 plus $100 to have it installed, and if your monthly electric bill is in excess of $200 per month it can save you up to 25% per month or in this case about $50 per month. Given that these devices are engineered to have an operational life cycle of 20 years your savings in the long term could be as much as $12,000.00 in 20 years and the device paid for itself in a matter of a mere 6 months! It is in making these small changes that they will begin to add up in the long term.
For many living in the Southwestern US air conditioning is one of the largest expenses due to the hot, dry and arid nature of this part of the world. It is also a part of the world like so many others where solar powered air conditioner usage makes the most sense. They offer a much shorter time period for a return on investment because of their enormous cost savings and are priced comparably to conventional AC systems available. They also use no CFC chemical refrigerants so by making use of them you take out one more freon based air conditioner system threatening our ozone layer. Conventional air conditioners on average require 6000 watts to operate while these systems only require 10% of that at 600 watts which is 1/3 the power required for a hand held hair dryer.
Make these upgrades one at a time if you must but make them because by making them we are continually adding less waste and more savings to all of our collective futures.
